The most talked about term these days…much over abused as well. Each person has his/her own definition of mental health depending on the journey they have been through. Some made it through it and not let the demons get them but there are few who lose their battle to the demons and succumb to it.
So, what exactly is mental health?
Mental health is the overall well-being and state of psychological and emotional functioning of an individual. It includes the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects of a person’s life.
Mental health is important as it affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves, and impacts their ability to cope with stress, relate to others, and make decisions.
Mental health is often confused with mental illness or disorder. But that’s not the case, mental health is not only about illness but over all holistic presence of positive mental state, such as happiness, resilience, and self-esteem. It’s not something constant, it changes over time and can be influenced by various factors, including genetics, environment, life experiences, and social support.
So how can you maintain good mental health?
Maintaining a good mental health is in your hands. You could start by practicing self-care, managing stress, developing healthy coping mechanisms, seeking social support, maintaining a balanced lifestyle, and engaging in activities that promote mental well-being, such as exercise, mindfulness, and engaging in hobbies or interests.
In short, positive mental health involves much more than just the absence of mental illness. It is about fostering a sense of well-being, resilience, and flourishing in all aspects of your life. By focusing on your mental health, you can improve your overall quality of life and build a strong foundation for your emotional and psychological well-being.
